In keeping with the spirit of Ramadan, UAE hotels and businesses are honouring the unsung heroes by gifting them iftar meal boxes.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), through their Ramadan Aman road safety campaign, are distributing iftar meals to drivers on the roads and at traffic intersections. It’s organised by Ajman-based Al Ihsan Charity Association, in collaboration with police departments from different emirates.

Tatawwu, the team for voluntary work at the Dubai Municipality, joins hands with Ihsan Charitable Association and Dubai Police for the Safe Ramadan campaign, which hopes to reduce accidents during Ramadan. Volunteers will distribute iftar packs to drivers just before the Maghrib adhan (which is when the chances of accidents are high).

Green Hope UAE along with Icons Coffee Couture and Panache International distributed 225 Iftar parcels to labourers at the Tadweer waste management plant.

Kehkashan, founder president of Green Hope UAE, stated, “Recycling is a key component of our sustainable consumption campaign and our efforts are aided all year round by Tadweer. We have made this gesture as a token of our appreciation towards them.”

Emirates Gas (Emgas), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc), kicked off its Ramadan charity campaign that allots free LPG refill vouchers to 500 disadvantaged families registered with Dar Al Ber Society in Dubai, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain.

Through ‘Feed a Family’, conducted with Dar Al Ber Society, the organisation hopes to help those who earn less than Dh2,500 every month. The vouchers will entitle those families to one free refill of a 22kg LPG cylinder per family. The refills will be provided from the first day of Ramadan through December 31, 2015.

Additionally Iftar meals will be offered to Emgas’ cylinder distribution staff in Dubai, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

Three Dubai-based retail developments by Meraas – City Walk, The Beach and Boxpark – have launched a Ramadan ‘book donation’ initiative to mark the spirit of giving during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

In partnership with UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY), residents are invited to donate their favourite books at designated collection boxes during Ramadan. “We would like to dedicate the holy month to promote the culture of reading in the community,” said Saleh Al Geziry, Senior Director- Retail Management, Meraas.

UAEBBY will use the donated books at book reading sessions during their visit to schools in the UAE. Later, the books will be kept in public libraries for children to access and enjoy in their free time.

Over 200 volunteers from Citi, Holiday Inn, Alcatel Onetouch and Bloomberg shared a meal with 150 low income workers on Monday at The Gem Garden restaurant at the Holiday Inn.

Alcatel Onetouch donated 150 phones, Citi provided an additional 150 SIM cards and Holiday Inn donated toiletries to the workers of EFS facilities services. Holiday Inn Dubai, Al Barsha, launched the “Loves You Campaign” which pledges that every Iftar meal at The Gem Garden restaurant will enable a donation to feed four needy people.

Intercontinental Dubai Marina hotels staff distributed iftar meal boxes filled with Arabian delicacies and refreshments to taxi drivers over three days this week.

“Taxi drivers play a key role in showing travellers around the emirates, especially in the heat of the summer when our guests rely on their valuable services more than ever,” said Michael Martin, General Manager at InterContinental Dubai Marina.

“We wanted to show our appreciation for their efforts and commitment through this gesture during the holy month of Ramadan.”

Telecom firm du will distribute food boxes to underprivileged families. “Come down to Al Nasr Club and pack food boxes for underprivileged families from 5pm to 1am, until July 2,” read out their statement on their official twitter handle.

On July 8, all cab drivers who drive through any of the 40 participating Starwood Hotels and Resorts in the UAE will be gifted an iftar box. Last year, Starwood delivered over 3,000 Iftar packs to cab drivers across the region.

“We thank the cab drivers and our partner-drivers at Uber who support us and provide our guests with transportation services throughout the year,” said Guido de Wilde, Senior Vice President and Regional Director, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Middle East.
