Sharjah unifies building permits

Sharjah has unified building permits process in order to save time and hassle for the applicants, said a senior official.

Mohammed Juma bin Hindi, Chairman of Sharjah Advisory Council, said nine departments approving permits for the commercial and residential buildings in the emirate will be brought under one roof to make it more convenient for the applicants.

This was discussed during a meeting of the Council which was called to discuss policy of the Sharjah Directorate of Town Planning and Survey (DTPS) on Thursday.

Hussein Al Madfa'a, a member of the Council, said applicants have to spend several months to take approval of their projects from departments of planning, survey, Sewa, gas, telecommunications, civil defense, environment, sanitation, and the technical section of the municipality.

Butti Al Muhairi, head of the Sharjah Directorate of Town Planning and Survey (DTPS), said the body did great efforts over the past 7 years by conducting study for the establishment of a unified specialized centre for issuing licenses.

Al Muhairi said half of the evaluation process for building permits is done electronically.
