Dhawan shows India what they missed against Pak

Delhi captain hits a century against England

Delhi captain Shikhar Dhawan gave a stinging reminder of what India missed during the series against Pakistan with a belligerent century against England on Tuesday evening.

The 27-year-old left-hander knocked out England with his 109-ball 110 in a warm-up one-day game as Delhi overhauled the 295-run target with six wickets in hand and nine balls to spare.

Ironically it came at the same venue - Feroze Shah Kotla - where two days earlier India's famed batting line up struggled to make 167 in the third one-dayer against Pakistan.

Dhawan raised a clench fist towards the pavilion after completing his century proving a point to the selectors by ensuring Delhi cruised to victory.

The southpaw has been knocking at the doors of the Indian team for some time now with his prolific form in the domestic circuit during the last two seasons.

But he has been overlooked in favour of Gautam Gambhir who retained his place for the first three one-dayers against England despite his regular opening partner Virender Sehwag being axed.

The pressure will be on Gambhir to deliver especially during the first 10 Powerplay overs after India failed to get explosive start during their 2-1 series loss against Pakistan.

Dhawan has done a favour for MS Dhoni and Co by denting the confidence of England ahead of the first one-day in Rajkot on Friday.
