A chanceless century by Shikhar Dhawan, his fifth of the year, saw India coast to an emphatic five-wicket win over West Indies and claim the three-match One-Day International series 2-1.

At the Green Park in Kanpur on Wednesday, Shikhar Dhawan blasted his way to a strokeful 119 after India had won the toss and West Indies posted 263.

Dhawan gave the packed-to-capacity crowd their money's worth by hitting 20 boundaries to post his highest ODI score from 28 ODIs.

Yuvraj, who has been going through a lean patch, once again chipped in with a scratchy 55 while Suresh Raina scored 34.

Earlier, Kieran Powell, Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo notched half centuries and Darren Sammy once again played a cameo to guide West Indies to 263 for 5.

Put into bat by Dhoni, West Indies were off to a good start despite the early fall of Charles Johnson's wicket.

Powell and Samuels set the tone with a 117-run partnership. But Samuels wicket opened the flodgates and India were suddenly back in the match.

Having restricted West Indies to 190 for 4 in the 40th over it looked like India had a firm control. But Darren Sammy once again proved how lethal he can be in the slog overs as he and Darren Bravo added 73 runs in the last 10 overs to give the visitors a chance to win the series.

Soft dismissal by Raina edging to Charles off Bravo. Five needed from 38 balls.

With 117 Dhawan moves to his highest ODI score.

India need 70 more runs to win from 108 balls.

West Indies innings:

Kieran Powell, Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo notched half centuries and Darren Sammy once again played a cameo to guide West Indies to 263 for 5 against India in the third and deciding One-Day International in Kanpur on Wednesday.

Put into bat by Dhoni, West Indies were off to a good start despite the early fall of Charles Johnson's wicket.

Powell and Samuels set the tone with a 117-run partnership. But Samuels' wicket opened the floodgates and India were suddenly back in the match.

Having restricted West Indies to 190 for 4 in the 40th over it looked like India had a firm control. But Darren Sammy once again proved how lethal he can be in the slog overs as he and Darren Bravo added 73 runs in the last 10 overs to give the visitors a chance to win the series.

Mohit Sharma proves expensive giving away 17 runs.

Sammy and Bravo bring up the 50-run partneship.

It rains sixes in Shami's over as Sammy and Bravo hit some big ones. Some respite after runs were hard to come by.

Shami goes for 14 runs, most expensive of the Indian innings.

Jadeja too finishes his quota of overs giving away 49 runs for the wicket of Simmons.

West Indies managing just 17 runs in the last 5 overs for the loss of their captain.

Captain Dwayne Bravo holes out in the deep to Ashwin to give Shami his first wicket. India are back in the game.

Simmons is gone trying to chop one from Jadeja and Dhoni gloves it.

L Simmons c Dhoni b Jadeja 13 (14b 2x4 0x6)

Ashwin finishes his 10 overs with 2 for 44.

Ashwin gets the crucial wicket of Samuels in the first over of batting powerplay.

M Samuels b Ashwin 71 (93b, 7x4, 1x6)

At the second drinks break WI look comfortably placed while India look lethargic in the field with dropped catches and overthrows.

Darren Bravo clobbers Ashwin for a six and a four. Runs flowing now.

Virat Kohli drops a sitter in the slips, caught napping by one from Samuels. India may have to pay for it.

The Powell-Samuels 117-run second wicket partnership ends.

India finally get the breakthrough as Powell hands Dhawan an easy catch at short fine leg off Ashwin.

K Powell c Dhawan b Raina 70 (81b 9x4 0x6)

Now Samuels gets to his 50, his 23rd from 157 ODIs as WI cruise along nicely.

Powell and Samuels bring up the 100-run partnership.

Powell gets to his seventh 50 in 21 ODIs. Good going for the visitors at the halfway stage.

With nine wickets in hand West Indies can look at a score of 300.

Samuels looks more settled at the crease now, thumping Ashwin for a four to get 11 runs off his first over.

Not a good start for Ashwin as Samuels lofts him over long on for a six, the first of the WI innings.

Nothing for the pacers now so it's time Dhoni throws the ball to the spinners.

Powell and Samuels bring up the 50 partnership in 55 balls.

Indian bowlers showing signs of frustration as Bhuvneshwar overthrows for four runs.

Powell is looking good for a big score, getting boundaries both on and off side.

That was close as Rohit Sharma dives but gets just his fingertips to a slapshot from Samuels.

Powell, standing tall outside the crease, spanks Shami over point for a four.

After playing and missing Powell finally gets bat to ball, cracking Sharma for a four through covers.

Bhuvneshwar gets an inswinger through Johnson's bat and pads to send his leg stump cart-wheeling.

J Charles b Kumar 11 (20b 2x4 0x6)

Johnson and Powell carry their luck as edges fall just short in the slip cordon.

Kieran Powell finds the gap between point and covers for three runs off Mohit Sharma.

Charles Johnson cracks Bhuvneshwar Kumar through the offside for a four.

The stage is set for a cracker of a match as both teams have a point to prove before they leave the Indian shores. India travel to South Africa and West Indies to New Zealand. A victory for West Indies in the deciding match could prove to be a morale-booster, while India can't afford to lose after such good performances against Australia as a defeat could demoralise them ahead of a crucial series against the Proteas.
