Chennai Super Kings will miss the services of explosive New Zealand batsman Brendon McCullum when they face Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 1 of IPL8 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

McCullum has been their best performer this season but has been released to join up with the New Zealand team for their ongoing tour of England.

The winner of this match will proceed straight to the final in Kolkata on May 24.

The loser will travel to Ranchi to play in Qualifier 2 to be played on May 22 which will feature the winner of the Eliminator (Royal Challengers Bangalore v Rajasthan Royals).

Two-time champions CSK have been a consistent side over the years and have made it to the last-four stage every single season.

It was no surprise that the MS Dhoni-led team finished the league stage at the top of the table but the odds will be against them because they will be playing in Mumbai.

Mumbai started their campaign with four successive defeats, following which they won seven of their last eight matches to finish the league season to finish second in the standings.

MI clinched their berth in the knockout stage by destroying Sunrisers Hyderabad for 113 and then chased down the target with more than six overs to spare.

The last occasion the Mumbai Indians finished in the second position in the points table – in 2013 – they went on the clinch the title.

The head to head between CSK and MI is even in 10 matches, though Mumbai have an edge at home winning four of the six matches.

In the league matches this season, both teams won their away games.

CSK cantered to a six-wicket win with 20 balls to spare at Wankhede after MI had posted 183.

In the return fixture in Chennai, CSK were restricted to 158-5 and MI won by six wickets with four balls to spare.
