Swapnil Patil smashed back-to-back half-centuries as Yogi Group had a field day, winning both of their scheduled matches with ease in the first Dubai Sports City Ramadan T-20 Cup at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday night.
Powered by a fluent unbeaten 73 by the former Mumbai Ranji Trophy player, Yogi Group first defeated Gyan Steel by nine wickets and then accounted for Interface Transworld by four wickets with Patil contributing another match-winning knock of 54.
Yogi Group seized the early initiative by bowling out Gyan Steel for 107 in their first match and wasted no time in achieving the modest victory target in just 16.1 overs. Mohammed Ajmal, Mohammed Rameez and Ambey Parwatkar ran through the Gyan Steel line up, picking up two wickets each. Mubashir Syed (28) top-scored for Gyan Steel.
Yogi Group, in reply, built their innings around Patil whose unbeaten 73 came off just 55 balls and included eight fours and a six. He was well supported by Prabodhan Kanse who also remained not out on 33 with three fours.
There was hardly any change in the script when Yogi Group took on Interface Transworld in their second match. With Ajmal, Kamran Shehzad and Salman Faris taking two wickets each, Yogi Group restricted their opponents to 137 and then accomplished the target with one over to spare.
Interface Transworld had built their innings around Jagrit Anand (31 off 33), Harsh Chaturvedi (25 off 14) and Tushar Pant (22 off 13), but their efforts, in the end, proved in vain.
Yogi Group, in reply, rallied effectively after losing their first two wickets for just five runs. Patil held the innings together with a fine 54 off 47 balls which included five fours and a six to set up a fine victory. Tushar Pant was the most successful Interface bowler, taking three for 23.
