Arsenal's players are confident Robin van Persie will commit his future to the club, according to Bacary Sagna.

“Everyone would like to see him wearing the Arsenal shirt next year and I think everyone is quite confident," the Frenchman told The Sun  (https://bit.ly/KgbhWf) an exclusive.

Van Persie, 29, finished as the Premier League’s top scorer last season after smashing 30 goals to help the Gunners secure third.

But with only a year remaining on his Emirates deal, a host of clubs including Manchester City, Real Madrid and big-spending Russians Anzhi Makhachkala are ready to triple his current £80,000-a-week salary, the report added.

However, Sagna claims there is growing hope within the Arsenal camp that their captain and talisman will stay in North London.

He said: “Robin already knows the club and the team and he feels at home at Arsenal.

“He loves the team and you could see that by the passion and dedication he showed until the end of the season.

“One good point is our qualification for the Champions League so everything is looking good.

“I'm not a mind reader but hopefully he will stay and I'm looking forward to playing with him again next season.”

Van Persie scooped the PFA Player of the Year accolade following his heroics in front of goal last term.

Sagna also reckons the Dutchman can now be ranked alongside Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the planet’s top stars.

The full-back added: “Robin is now part of the best players in the world. The English league is one of the hardest in the world and he was flying.

“He was scoring very good goals from strange positions. He showed great strength of character. He is our captain, our leader off and on the pitch."
