Arsenal are edging toward a deal for Saprissa striker Joel Campbell, it has been reported.

The Costa Rica international has caught the eye of several clubs across Europe after impressing for his country at Copa America, having scored a goal in the 2-0 victory against Bolivia.

Saprissa have approved the sale of the 19-year-old, coming to a $2 million (€1.3 million) agreement with Arsenal in principle and a deal could be announced on Tuesday.

Despite Campbell's father claiming earlier this month that a transfer to Arsenal had been put on hold after other clubs had expressed interest in the player, it is believed that an improved bid from the Premier League side was enough to convince all parties.

Campbell, who spent the last season on loan at Puntarenas, will only join Arsenal after the Under-20 World Cup in Colombia, where Costa Rica will take on Australia, Ecuador and Spain.
