Andre Villas-Boas is ready to persuade Roman Abramovich to try to land AC Milan ace Pato in a £30 million player plus cash deal, according to the 'Mirror'.

Chelsea have tracked the Brazilian sensation for three years and were linked with a big money deal after the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti which never materialised.

The Blues, however, retained an interest in the South American and with Villas-Boas having run his rule over his squad during their Asian tour a move is in the offing.

With Villas-Boas aware he has to find a way of getting the best out of £50 million Fernando Torres, Pato is seen as somebody who could become a key part of a new attacking trio.

Pato scored 14 times in 25 appearances last season, after a campaign best by minor injuries.

He has lost his place as the emerging face of Brazilian football to Santos ace Neymar but his ability is not in question and he has plenty of experience of Champions League football and the expectations of a big club.

Chelsea are understood to be prepared to offer Milan £20 million plus either Nicolas Anelka or Salomon Kalou to land Pato, although Milan, still keen on bringing former Inter striker Mario Balotelli back to the San Siro, will want more than that to help secure the Italian, the newspaper said.
