Wayne Rooney versus Lionel Messi?
Rooney’s amazing turnaround as a player and phenomenal form right now has put him back in contention for the unofficial title of ‘world’s best’.
Rooney, however, is not happy being “one of the world’s best”.
He wants the title held by the best – Messi.
On Saturday, Rooney became only the fourth player in Premier League history to hit back-to-back hat-tricks.
With this season barely underway he has scored eight goals already.
Strike partner Javier Hernandez was quoted as saying: "Wayne Rooney is unbelievable. He can do anything on a pitch."
With Benfica to come on Wednesday and then Chelsea on Sunday, the stage is set for Rooney to stir up the debate some more.
So far, he has the game and the goals to do that.
