Brendan Rodgers risks a Roy Hodgson-style meltdown with some of the players he is lining up to revive Liverpool Football Club.

Given that Gylfi Sigurdsson’s move from Hoffenheim has reportedly hit a roadblock, Liverpool are said to be now poised to make an offer for Parma striker Fabio Borini.

Rodgers knows Borini well as the striker played at Chelsea and Swansea.

However, throw in to that mix the likes of Dutch starlet Luc Castaignos also being considered and suddenly it feels like Alberto Aquilani all over again. Or worse, Andy Carroll.

Buying a player with less-than proven credentials in the hope that he will achieve his potential at a club where the pressure is immense? Well that's a tough ask.

Aquilani was a Rafa Benitez move and Carroll a kenny Dalglish indulgence.

Rodgers is unlikely to enjoy the time Benitez was given and is more likely to face a Hodgson-style examination.

Borini is 21 and has been on loan at Roma.

At Swansea, Borini scored six goals in 12 games.
