Mourinho, Drogba back for Chelsea...

Roberto Di Matteo's faith in Fernando Torres is set to boomerang as Chelsea's most expensive player continued to fire blanks in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The result stretched Liverpool's unbeaten run in the league to six matches and left Chelsea without a win in three games.

Chelsea slipped to third in the table and lost two points to leaders Manchester United and second-placed Manchester City who both won over the weekend.

Despite their win over Liverpool in last season's FA Cup final, Di Matteo was left to rue his side's missed chances as the Reds extended their unbeaten run in their last four matches at Stamford Bridge.

Torres may have been proven right that he had to leave Anfield in January 2011 to capture the game’s biggest prizes but he seems to have left his game behind on Merseyside the night he moved to Stamford Bridge for £50 million.

Two fine opportunities fell his way – once in the 27th minute when Eden Hazard put him through, the other following a free kick from Oscar – but both ended up in the midriff of Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones.

Aside from that, he contributed little and was kept under wraps by Jamie Carragher and Daniel Agger.

Hauled off by Di Matteo with eight minutes remaining, despite Chelsea needing a goal, Torres clearly disagreed with the decision.

But he gave the Italian little choice because even his job seems to be at stake now.

Apart from talk of Pep Guardiola's imminent return from self-imposed exile, former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has not ruled out the possibility of returning to Stamford Bridge.

The Special One treasures his successful stint at the Blues and still keeps in touch with Chelsea stars.

Didier Drogba revealed he gets texts in the middle of night from his former boss.

Drogba, who now plays in China, said: “Obviously with him and (Roman) Abramovich, it’s for life."

The Ivorian is keeping his options open for a return to England and would certainly be Mourinho's first choice if Chelsea slip further and Guardiola opts out of bringing a Barca revolution to Stamford Bridge.
