Nasri, Luka, Wes and Fab move… but Arsenal?

Among the many footballing platitudes on which the Gunners were built was: “In Arsene we trust.”

Now Arsenal is facing its worst crisis of faith since… well, Arsene Wenger took over as manager in 1996.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright yesterday led the protests in his column for the Sun where he laid out the troubles: “Star players set to leave, barely any new signings, injuries to top players and a seriously tough batch of opening fixtures. I'm fed up of talking about Arsenal with a negative vibe but it looks like some dark days are ahead,” Wright wrote.

Worse, Wright adds, “Now, I fear he (Arsense Wenger) may end up walking away.”

And he ends with one line from a supporter that he totally agrees with. It read: "Are we supporting a football club or a business?"

Gervinho, Carl Jenkinson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have arrived.

Gael Clichy has left while Nicklas Bendtner and Emmanuel Eboue are on their way.

The team starts against Newcastle on Saturday night before a tough Champions League play-off against Udinese, along with games against Liverpool and Manchester United.

The 'Mirror' reported that fed-up Arsenal supporters want to know why he is prepared to spend big on a rookie but not on proven Premier League players.

Arsenal have been chasing Valencia's Juan Mata and have failed to lure Chris Samba while Wenger may have lost the battle to keep star duo Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.

But Pete Wood, who runs Arsenal fans’ website Le Grove, said: “It’s just amazing that we’ve spent the whole summer trying to buy Gary Cahill or Chris Samba but have been told that we won’t pay over the odds.

“But we will pay top dollar for a young talent who has been playing in League One?

“I’m sure Oxlade-Chamberlain is going to be a good player, but it leaves you wondering: ‘Where are Arsenal’s priorities?’

“They’ve got a lot of talented young, fast players already - and they need a centre-back. Fan expectation has never been so low.

“Finishing fourth will seem like winning a trophy. It leaves you thinking this will be Wenger’s last season.”

Season-ticket holder Darren Epstein added: “I hope it will be followed by other signings for the squad. The club has said they would be active, so let’s hope they are true to their word with at least one defender.”

Even former players seem to have deserted the club. Patrick Vieira is in an ambassadorial role at Manchester City. He is an Arsenal legend.

The Gunners' last trophy came in the 2005 FA Cup final and now manager Wenger seems to be in a do or die situation.

No Jag for you

Sylvian Distin added to Arsenal woes by saying they are wasting their time trying to tempt Phil Jagielka away from Everton.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is chasing Jagielka again, despite failing to land England defender last summer.

Toffees manager David Moyes has vowed to keep the 28-year-old and Distin reckons his centre-back pal will stay.

The Frenchman was quoted in the Sun as saying: "He has not said he wants to go so we're happy he's staying.

"I don't think anybody wants to leave here."

Fans have been frustrated by Everton's lack of signings this summer.

But Distin added: "The main thing is keeping our big players and that's what we have done."
