David Beckham's tour of Miami-area stadiums has the city buzzing about the possibility the newly retired former England football star could be set to bring a Major League Soccer club to the area.
The 38-year-old former England captain, one of the most high-profile players to shuffle between football and celebrity, made his final home appearance for French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain before heading into retirement last weekend.
He has been linked to a raft of future career possibilities, including buying a stake in an MLS club. An option to do so at a discount price came with the landmark deal that brought Beckham to the US league's Los Angeles Galaxy for what proved to be a six-season stay.
The Herald reported that Beckham toured Sun Life Stadium - home of the NFL's Miami Dolphins - on Saturday morning, and then visited Florida International University Stadium.
While at FIU, Beckham was met by Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, the newspaper reported, adding that Beckham has been in Miami since mid-week, learning about the city with Marcelo Claure, the Bolivian billionaire owner of Brightstar Communications who tried unsuccessfully in 2009 to bring an MLS team to Miami.
