RVP effect: Giroud confirms Arsenal's worst nightmare

Striker confident of firing for Gunners soon

Olivier Giroud is confident he will break his Arsenal duck sooner than later despite admitting to "freezing up" in front of goal.

The France striker is being touted as a replacement for Robin van Persie but has failed to fire, missing two close-range opportunities in three games.

The France striker joined the Gunners in a big-money move from Montpellier in the summer but has struggled to fire in their early games, missing several presentable opportunities.

"I've been freezing up a little bit just when I've been about to pull trigger and that's exactly what happened in my first few matches for France," Giroud told Fifa's official website.

The 25-year-old netted 21 goals in 36 league appearances as Montpellier claimed their first Ligue 1 title last season and hopes to make an impact as the Gunners look to deliver a first trophy since 2005.

"I'm not too worried about it, because I've been scoring in training and I feel pretty comfortable being a part of this team.

"I just need to not think about things too much, so that I feel as relaxed as possible when the time comes to stick the ball in the net."

The Emirates faithful will be praying Giroud will not turn out to be another Fernando Torres who played almost one whole season before netting his first goal for Chelsea.

Arsene Wenger's other two new signings Lukas Podolski and Santi Corzula managed to open their account against Liverpool.

Giroud has shown enterprise and flair attempting a long-range effort over the Stoke goalkeeper which barely missed the target much to the chagrin of Wenger.

Nevertheless, he feels comfortable playing with Wenger's attacking formation.

"Being at Arsenal will help me with my development, and with a manager like Arsene Wenger in charge, I'm definitely in good hands," he said.

It will be only a matter of time before Giroud opens the floodgates for Arsenal.
