Tottenham are plotting to hijack Liverpool's move for Swansea midfielder Joe Allen, according to the Daily Mail.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to seal a reunion with the Team GB midfielder and had a £12 million bid rejected earlier this week.

Swansea launched a swipe at the Anfield club after Liverpool agreed they would not court Swansea players for 12 months unless another club made an offer or the player was transfer listed.

With Luka Modric set to join Real Madrid, Andre Villas-Boas is keen to bolster his midfield options – and Allen, who is set to play for Team GB against the UAE on Sunday, fits the bill.

The 21-year-old's buy-out clause is £10m should a team other than the two Manchester clubs, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool submit a bid.

According to the Daily Star, Villas-Boas could make his move when Spurs return from their pre-season tour of the United States.
