Jose Enrique has been hit with a £100,000 fine for his Twitter blast at Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, according to ‘The Sun’.

The Toon chief is furious with the wantaway Spanish full-back, who let rip at the board over team investment.

Boss Alan Pardew had given Enrique a slap on the wrist after his outburst and was ready to leave it at that.

But Ashley was so angered with Enrique’s rant that he immediately ordered Pardew to dish out a two-week fine.

Pardew was not happy with his 25-year-old star and said: “Jose was wrong to put those comments up and I told him.

“It’s a good offer which we have given him and maybe the frustration of the situation got the better of him.

“I want him to stay, he’s a good lad but this didn’t reflect well on him. It was a mistake, he knows it and so do I.”

The Spaniard is desperate to quit Newcastle and is in the final year of the £50,000-a-week deal he signed following his £6.3 million switch from Villarreal in 2007.

He has snubbed the Geordies’ new offer but despite some initial interest from Liverpool, the Toon are still waiting for any firm offers.

All 20 Premier League clubs are looking into how best to handle social media sites like Twitter and Facebook and will discuss it at a meeting later in the year.

Pardew added: “Twitter is dangerous. You can say things when you’re emotional, when it’s probably not the best time to express your feelings.

“I’m all for people expressing themselves - they just have to be very careful.”

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is introducing a Twitter crackdown and warned his players they will be fined if they disclose team secrets.

McCarthy missed out on Aston Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell last season after his interest was tweeted by a player.

The Molineux chief said: “Some twit tweeted Steve was at the Chelsea game and it became common knowledge.

“He was having a fitness test the next day and his agent gets a call from Mark Hughes and he signs for Fulham.

“Players are going to get themselves into trouble over Twitter. I can’t ban it but they have to be careful what they say.

“If they put a team selection up, which I’m sure some disgruntled numpty will do, they will be in trouble.”
