Former Spain and Real Madrid defender Michel Salgado will join UEFA official Ioan Lupescu in the first session on the opening day of the 2nd Dubai International Football Academies Forum to be held on June 1-2.

Salgado, who has been a Dubai resident since the past few months, has agreed to team up with the Uefa official to speak on the Uefa’s elite youth player programme. The first session of the forum, moderated by Sami Alemam, will be opened by Fifa official Jean Michel Benezet who will speak on the Fifa youth development programmes.

The second session on the first day will be dedicated to football academies development partnerships with Dr. Joachim Mester from the German Sports University in Cologne leading it with the role of science and research centres in talent development.

Dr. Mester will be joined during the session by Eric Caballero from the College of Pierre de Coubertin Meaux, Paris and Vincent Chaudel from the Sport and Citizenship organization.

The third and final session will consist of a workshop with all six directors from the clubs in Dubai giving a presentation of what they have done and achieved during the past one year. The session will be moderated by UAE’s AFC licenced coach Abdullah Hassan, who is attached to the UAE Football Association.

The highlight for the second day of the forum will be the presence of Argentinean legend Diego Maradona and Sweden’s Sven-Goran Eriksson in presenting success stories of the stars and how it is important to get the basics right in football.

Earlier sessions during the day will see former AFC official Michelle Chai, now with the UAE FA, speak on the club licencing system and youth development programme as mooted by the Professional League Committee (PLC).

Representatives from the Dubai Sports Council, Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Sharjah Sports Council will also get an opportunity along with the UAE FA to present the work they have done through initiatives for local youth development.
