A sterling all-round display from Sunny Patel who represents Gujarat in the Ranji trophy powered Yogi Group to a spectacular 51-run triumph over Phoenix Medicine in the 25-over DCC Ramadan Cricket tournament final at the Dubai Men’s College Fair Grounds Oval on Monday night.

Yogi, who performed consistently throughout the tourney, conducted under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council, emerged champions with a clinical performance in the decisive match.

Patel smashed a superb 81 off 47 balls and helped his team post a challenging total of 192 for eight in 25 overs after being put into bat and then picked up two crucial wickets, giving away only 28 runs from his five overs.

Patel, who had some consistent match-winning performances in the tournament, contested by 16 top teams, saved his best for the final and helped Yogi add another prestigious title.

Yogi were 79 for five wickets in 15 overs and were in a spot of bother but Patel hammered six huge sixes and four boundaries in his entertaining knock and he got excellent support from his team-mates Jay Kishan and Shahzad Manna.

Opener Manna, who later picked up four wickets for 25 runs from his five overs, scored a 16-ball 25 with the help of three fours and two sixes, while Kishan added 35 from 29 balls, including one four and two sixes.

Abid Choudhary, who opened with Manna, shared in a 34-run opening stand to give them a decent start.

Asif Mumtaz was the pick of the bowlers for Phoenix as he took three for 27, while Bilal Shah too was impressive, bagging three for 42.

Phoenix, on the other hand, got off to a poor start during their chase as they lost their first wicket for 10 runs when Mohammad Rameez sent back the opener Fahad Ansari for four runs.

Manna dismissed the dangerous opener Hafiz Kaleem soon to give Yogi a decisive advantage in the final.

Excellent spells from Manna, Patel and Rameez, who finished with figures of 2-17 from his quota of five overs, helped Yogi retain their control till the end.

Kaleem who rode his luck, chipped in with a 23-ball 23 with the help of three fours and one six, while Mohammad Qasim took the attack to Yogi bowlers and was the top scorer with 31 from 26 balls, including one four and two sixes.

Saqlain Haider chipped in with a useful 20 from 17 deliveries, but the rest of the batsmen caved in meekly, giving Yogi an easy victory in the final.

Patel was adjudged man of the match for his superb all-round performance in the final.

A minutes silence was observed and a short prayer was offered by both teams and officials in the memory of umpire Bahadur Ali Khan who passed away last week in a car accident.

DCC Honorary Secretary, Mohamed Lokhandwala gave away the awards along with DCC officials Farrukh Siddiqui and Shoeb Muljiani and Roop Razdan who represented the Fair ground management.
