RTA win bowling title in Dubai tournament

Former UAE bowler Sultan Al Marzouqi was in sublime form to lead the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) squad to the bowling title in the Dubai Government Entities Sports Tournament held last week.

Al Marzouqi’s high series score of 680 was crucial in the RTA squad’s total of 2,618 pinfalls as the assistant general secretary of the Emirates Bowling Federation (EBF) showed the way for his team.

Matching the RTA team’s skills was the team from Dubai Police with a total pinfall of 2,460 while the team from Dubai Courts took third place with a total of 2,284.

Al Marzouqi rightly topped the individual category with his score of 680, while Dubai Courts’ Tariq Shehab came in a distant second with a total of 586 and Omar Al Olama’a from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs was placed third with a score of 580.

As many as 17 teams participated in this opening competition of the 2nd edition of the Dubai Government Entities Sports Tournament that got under way with the bowling tournament at the Dubai Bowling Centre, Al Mamzar last week.

More than 25 different entities falling under the umbrella of Dubai Government have confirmed their participation for this annual competition.

This year’s competition will be held in six different sporting discipines, including football in two separate age categories, swimming, bowling, billiards, tug of war and a 5km walking race.

The next competition will be the billiards tournament to be held in December, while the football tournaments being held at the Dubai Police Officers Club in February and March next year.

The entire competition is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, with sponsorship from Emirates Islamic Bank.
