Tyson and Williams to face off in Dubai

Former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson will be joined at the World Championships for Arab Boxing at Dubai's Festival City next month by old rival Danny Williams it has been confirmed.

Tyson, 45, was knocked out by Williams in four rounds in 2004 in what was largely seen as the end of the road for the ‘Baddest man on the planet’ after almost 20 years at the top of his game.

Williams, 38, has recently retired from boxing following five defeats in his last nine bouts and challenged Vitali Klitschko unsuccessfully in the wake of his victory over Tyson – losing in eight rounds.

The two will now oversee the 12-fight tournament from January 21 and 22 as special guests to promote Arab boxing in the region.

Held under the Under the patronage of Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and organised by ‘Gold star’ with the Dubai Sports Council-backed Arab Boxing Championships it will feature bouts between amateurs and professional men and women boxers.

The championships, has already attracted top boxing champions from the: US, Iraq, Switzerland, Russia, Netherlands, France, Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, Surinam, Kuwait, Palestine, Spain, Colombia, Portugal, Turkey, Mauritania and hosts UAE.

The two-day boxing championship is sponsored by Dubai Festival city.

Arab boxing was created in 1972  while the international Arab Boxing Association has been established in 1990 and is located in Paris.

According to the game's regulations, competitors may use both hands and feet to attack opponents. Points to be awarded as per types of strikes
