A Saudi man on a fishing trip in the Gulf Kingdom’s waters came face to face with a shark but said he was not attacked by the massive mammal.
Adel Al Anzi said he used his mobile phone to film the shark nearly three km off the northwestern Saudi town of Tabuk.
“It was too close to our boat but it did not harm us…I have read that such types of sharks are very rare,” he told Sabq newspaper.
The paper quoted diving instructor in the town, Captain Mohammed Al Sumaili, as saying the shark is one of the largest living animals on earth, with an average length of 12 metres and weight of 21 tonnes.
“It can live up to 70 years…this shark feeds mainly on small fish although it has a large mouth,” he said.
