Wife's liver saves divorced husband

A Chinese woman decided to donate part of her liver to save her divorced husband recently, which deeply touched a large number of Chinese.

The woman, named Su Dan, got married with Tian Xinbing ten years ago and led a wealthy and happy life with their daughter. However, they divorced over different views at the running of their company.

Tian Xinbing, Su's ex-husband, was diagnosed of a liver cancer two months after their divorce. The only way to save Tian's life is to carry out a liver transplant operation, but the number of patients waiting for liver transplant was large.

After Su got this bad news, she went to the hospital for a liver matching examination without telling her family. Although her liver was well-matched, Su was denied by Chinese relevant laws and regulations as an ex-wife is not a direct-line spouse qualified to do so.

Su decided to overcome all the obstacles to save her beloved. She spared no efforts to persuade Tian in remarrying. Finally, Tian nodded with numerous considerations.

Shi Bingyi, member of the ethic committee in the 309th Hospital of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, said Su's will was refused by them in the first ethic review. She wrote a long letter to their dean to plead for a chance and cried many times in the hospital to express her earnest request.

During the second review, she simply told the medical workers why she insisted in donating her liver. "I simply love him," she said. The committee eventually approved her request.

After an over-ten-hour operation, one-third of Su's liver was successfully transplanted into Tian's body.
