Electronics major Samsung will focus on mobile phones with larger screen size as several new models are scheduled to be launched this year.

Samsung says its mobile division has experienced massive growth in the UAE in 2012, registering an impressive growth of 340 per cent in terms of turnover compared to 2011.

Speaking to Emirates 24l7 during the Samsung Mena Forum 2013 being held in Dubai, Steven Woo Jun, Director of Telecommunications Group at Samsung Gulf, said, with the Galaxy S3 and Note 2 doing really well, the numbers might exceed this year.

"There are new models lined up for this year," he said without specifying on what phones to hit the market.

This website had already reported that S4 is in the pipeline and there are rumours of an S4 mini as well.

"The focus is on bigger screen size. Our next model will have a bigger screen size and display," he added.

According to him UAE continues to be the number one market in the GCC (excluding Saudi Arabia).

"Across the GCC, we experienced a growth of 214 per cent in 2012 compared to the previous year," said Woo Jun expressing confidence that Samsung is well equipped to take on the onslaught by Apple, Nokia or the resurgent BlackBerry.
