The Public Health Division of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has seized 125kg of herbal products not conforming to prescribed health stipulations.
Khalifa Al Rumaithi, Director of Public Health, Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, said: "An inspection campaign has been launched as part of the municipality’s efforts to safeguard public health."
Three types of herbal health products were seized: sex tonics for men, slimming products and sex stimulants for women.
The sex tonics for men were not registered at the Ministry of Health and thus were unauthorised to be used. Some of them had no defining labels and show some text in Chinese language claiming they are herbal products. Experience has shown that such products are usually fake and mixed with controlled chemical drugs. Thus their use without medical supervision may be dangerous.
The slimming products giving consumers the false impression that they are effective for losing weight. Such products ought to have been registered with the Ministry of Health which is not the case and which indicates that they have been adulterated with high-risk prohibited chemical drugs.
In the third group are creams, fluids and syrups for stimulating women’s sex drive. Some of these products were packed as tea or syrups for drinking which have the possibility of being used to sexually manipulate women.
All the seized products were classified as fake and unauthorised to be traded in the UAE with the potential of causing harm to the health of users.
