Dubai Police are investigating a daylight robbery that happened in the last week of December at around 8.45am in the Mediterranean cluster of Discovery Gardens, when three people barged into a house armed with knives, 'Emirates 24|7' can reveal.

“My relatives had come to Dubai to visit us for four days. I had gone to office and my wife had just stepped out for some work, it was then that one person rang the bell and told my relatives to open the door as they had come to take gas metre reading,” the victim's relative, who did not wish to be named, told this website.

He added that his aunt did not suspect any foul play and opened the door. The three people then pushed the door and barged in.

“They threatened my uncle with dire consequences if he uttered any word. They took our laptop, gold, diamond ring and all our cash,” he said.

Brigadier Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Director of Dubai’s criminal Investigation Department, said police are on the trail of robbers and they will be arrested any time.“We are taking this matter very seriously since someone barged into a home and robbed at knife point.”

Al Mansouri added that the police had increased patrolling in the area after the incident and urged residents to report any suspicious activities.

“People should be careful and report to us if they see any suspicious activities. We also advice residents not to open door to strangers.”

Marycel M Roxas, Commercial Manager, Lootah BC Gas, said: “All our staff are well trained, dressed in the company uniform and carry company IDs. People can check their IDs if they have any doubt. And if they still are skeptic, they can just call our toll free number (800 5224) so we can confirm our staff’s presence at their doorstep.”

She added the gas metre reading is taken every quarter in Discovery Gardens and their staff enters the apartment only if the resident allows them, or else they will just post the metre reading sticker on their door and leave.
