An Emirati allegedly impersonated his relative and transferred a SIM card number to that name.

The Dubai Criminal Court heard how the accused, identified as SKS, 24, is accused of using forged documents to get a SIM card.

The victim SK, testified that he bought a Wasel SIM card from a Syrian in 2007.

He stopped using it after some time although he kept renewing it.

In April 2011, he found out that the number is in another person’s name.

Etisalat could not tell him how the number was transferred to another person.

“I called the number and the one who replied claimed that his name is Mohammed Al Mansouri.

“I reported the incident to the Al Qusais police station and later learnt from a relative that another relative is using the number. I was asked to solve the matter amicably and drop the complaint.”

“I retained the number and Etisalat issued me a new SIM card.

“Two days later, while trying to operate the SIM card, I found it not working.

Etisalat informed me that a ‘twin service’ was issued on this number. The service allows mobile and internet use on the same SIM card,” he testified.

The accused confessed to forging two applications and submitting them to Etisalat.
