Man United's Champions League game was ‘fixed’

A former referee and football commentator has sensationally claimed that a 1993 Champions League match between Manchester United and Galatasaray was fixed.

According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Ahmet Cakar used his Twitter account to claim that referee Kurt Rothlisberger was bribed to ensure Galatasaray went through.

The gamed ended in a goalless draw and Eric Cantona was sent off.

At the time Cantona had told French newspaper L’Equipe that he believed the game had been fixed.

The Swiss Rothlisbergerwas banned for life by Uefa in 1997 for attempted bribery in another Champions League game.
