Argentine legend Diego Maradona has branded Sir Alex Ferguson “a joke” for sticking his nose in the ‘Tevezgate’ affair which has rocked football.
Ferguson came out in support of Mancini after the Champions League incident which saw Tevez refusing to come on and play as a substitute in the defeat at Bayern Munich.
But Maradona, who is manager of Al Wasl in Dubai and once advised Tevez to quit Manchester United when he was stuck on the bench at Old Trafford, disagreed with Fergie.
Maradona said: “Ferguson should not be talking about it because he became a big coach only after he got big players.
“Ferguson was defending Mancini and I know Mancini well, and I know Carlos Tevez too, and if Ferguson doesn’t really know about the issue, he shouldn’t be talking so it’s a real big joke.
“It’s difficult to judge what happened over there from here, but this is an old story. This is not the first time this has happened.
“We’ve heard about Carlos Tevez not wanting to stay and play his football at Manchester City and that’s what happened in the match. Things got out of hand.”
Maradona, 50, has a big interest in the fortunes of City after his son-in-law Sergio Aguero joined for a record £38 million in the summer when they tried to offload the transfer-seeking Tevez.
