Last season Kenny Dalglish told Arsene Wenger to man up and not cry over the vagaries of football.

Liverpool had just been awarded a late, late penalty against Arsenal.

Now, the finicky nature of football has come back to haunt King Kenny and perhaps it is time for him to man up.

Dalglish yesterday sensationally claimed that referees have been victimising Liverpool in their decisions this season.

In fact, so convinced is Kenny of his case that he wants to make a formal complaint.

Dalglish is livid after his side lost 1-0 to Stoke thanks to a controversial Jonathan Walters penalty.

Dalglish was quoted in the Daily Mail as saying, “If we keep getting battered by things outside our control and jurisdiction that's different. Our first four games have had contentious decisions and every one this season has gone against us.”

The penalty decision that condemned Liverpool to defeat looked harsh, although defender Jamie Carragher did appear to tug momentarily at Walters's shirt.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez was also furious when referee Mark Clattenburg turned down a hand-ball appeal in the closing stages after the Uruguayan's cross struck Matthew Upson on the leg then his arm.
