It is Priyanka Chopra's time of distress, as her father Dr Ashok Chopra lost the battle with cancer in a Mumbai hospital.

Priyanak's father, who has been ailing after he was detected with cancer, was critically ill.

The cancer that struck the doctor a few years ago had returned.

Priyanka was extremely close to her father, and even has a tattoo - "Daddy's Li'l Girl", on her wrist. Priyanka's doctor father, Lt. Col Ashok Chopra, retired from the Indian Army in 1997 and was a constant support to Priyanka in all her endeavours.

Worried Priyanka Chopra, tweeted ‘Mahamrityunjaya Mantra’ on Twitter on June 7 and after that the actress had drawn into her own shell avoiding the media, her work and all professional matters to tend to her father who was admitted at Kokilaben hospital.

Meanwhile, the shoot of her 'Mary Kom' biopic, initially scheduled to start on Monday, was postponed. Director Omung Kumar will start the film whenever Priyanka is comfortable to start shooting. Until then, the set of the boxing stadium erected in a Goregaon studio, will be kept standing.

Till last week when her dad's condition deteriorated, Priyanka went about her work as usual. Only those close to her knew what she was going through. Priyanka was attending the rehearsals for the bio-pic while attending to her Dad during her free time.

Back in 2005 when she was shooting for Rohan Sippy's 'Bluffmaster' her father was first diagnosed with the illness. Priyanka had not shared her agony with anyone on the sets even then.

During her hour of crisis, Priyanka's close friends surrounded her. Shah Rukh Khan, who is still recuperating from his shoulder surgery, dropped by to check on Dr Chopra a few days back.

Also spotted at the hospital among others were Shristi Arya--one of PeeCee's best friends in the industry and sister of producer Goldie Behl; Apoorva Lakhia, who is directing the actress on the 'Zanjeer' remake; Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Omung Kumar, whom she has teamed up with for 'Mary Kom'; Tarun Mansukhani, a friend since they worked together in 'Dostana'.
