A nine-year old boy has sustained severe injuries and is currently into a coma after falling from a third-floor balcony of a residential building in Ajman.

According to local media reports, quoting a senior official in the Ajman Police, the boy is an Ethiopian and the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to local daily Gulf Today, Brigadier Ali Abdullah Elwan, Chief of Ajman Police, said, “We have found out that the boy did not fall from the balcony of his house, but from the neighbour’s balcony.

The report also quoted Brigadier Elwan as saying that the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution and the neighbours would be charged with negligence.

“The boy’s parents both work and leave their son with their neighbour until they get back. On the day of the incident, the neighbour left the house and locked the boy in a room that had a balcony,” added Elwan.

“The boy lost balance while standing in the balcony and fell, sustaining severe injuries to his head and multiple fractures in various parts of his body.”
