The Abu Dhabi Police Air Wing’s search and rescue aircraft managed to locate and rescue two Korean tourists who were stranded in the desert of the Western Region.

The police operations room received a notification at around 10.45pm on Tuesday, reporting that two people were missing in the sandy area of Mezairaa in the Western Region.

Search and rescue aircraft immediately took off, led by Lt Colonel Saeed Salem Al Marar, head of the Air Operations Section.  Lt Col Al Marar established the correct coordinates and located the missing couple stranded in the sand in just 15 minutes.

The aircraft medical team examined the two tourists -- a 33-year old Korean man and his 40-year old wife. After making sure they were in a good condition, the couple was shown the right road.

The two Koreans expressed their delight to be found by the search and rescue aircraft and thanked both the Abu Dhabi Police Air Wing and the aircraft’s crew.
