A new federal bill to regulate the recruitment of domestic help such as nannies, housemaids, drivers and gardeners is under consideration by the Ministry of the Interior, according to Major General Mohammed Al Marri, Director-General of the General Department of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai.
Maj. Gen. Al Marri told ‘Emirates24|7’ that the new law will lay down procedures to bring in these types of workers for both Emirati and expatriate families and will also determine the duties and obligations of recruitment agencies.
Al Marri also said the new law will define the relationships between the sponsoring family, the workers and the recruitment agencies.
He said he expected that the new law will reduce the number of domestic help who escape from their sponsors to work for other families.
"The law will fill many of the gaps in the existing law, thus solving many of the current problems," said Al Marri.
But he did not specify a date for application of the new law.
