Dubai Police warn public not to click unknown web link: Leads to dialing 999

Dubai Police have issued a warning that its emergency police operations about an internet link believed to have been created by hackers targeting the emirate’s police.

Dubai’s police command has issued a warning to the public not to use that link falsely claiming that it involves “a picture very close to the sun,” according to the Arabic language daily Al Bayan.

The warning, published on the police account on Twitter, appealed for the public to ignore that link on the grounds it triggers unnecessary phone calls to the emergency police number 999 and blocks access to the number by others who are in distress.

The statement said police experts are working on tracking those who set up that link, adding that it was not the first time such “irresponsible” actions are done.

“We have received numerous calls because of this link.

“They are really very disturbing and annoying as they put great pressure on the emergency operator,” the paper said, quoting Brigadier Omar Al Shamsi, director of the police command and control.

“It is not the first time such irresponsible actions are taken by irresponsible persons. Previously, we have succeeded in identifying those persons and presented them to court on charges of disturbing authorities.”
