UAE nationals allowed to buy guns, hunting weapons

Certificates of good conduct to be issued prior to sale of weapons

Citizens without criminal records can avail certificates of good conduct needed for buying and licensing guns and other hunting weapons at the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (Adihex), said Abu Dhabi Police.

The AD Police has opened a counter at the Adihex for the certificate issuance, which will not take more than 15 minutes, according to Captain Sultan Al Tunaiji, Director of Fingerprint section at the Criminal Evidence Administration.

The counter has been networked with the Criminal Records System at the Interior Ministry and the handprint section at the Emirates Identity Authority.

Under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region (Al Gharbia) of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and the President of the Emirates Falconers' Club, the 10th edition of Adihex will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. Organized by the Emirates Falconers' Club, the Exhibition will run from September 5 to September 8.

In the past 10 years, Adihex has achieved tremendous success. The number of exhibitors and participating countries has risen remarkably to register 1,200 per cent growth rate, compared with the first edition, held in 2003 and attended by 40 companies from 14 countries. In the second edition of Adihex, held in 2004, the number of the participants rose to reach 192 companies from 21 countries.

In the third edition, which was held in 2005, the participation of 353 companies from 36 countries was registered. The growing participation confirms the international standing of this specialized event, which is unique of its kind on both regional and international levels.

Guns don't kill. It's the person behind them that kills just like driving a car and killing someone. And people need the right to self protection, if they want it.

@ET, what David wrote is that a 'certificate of good conduct' has no meaning since it's not a predictor of future violence as is the case of road fatalities caused by someone with no previous criminal record - same thing applies to guns.

Cars on highways @ high speed=weapons. Guns now issued to those with no previous criminal record? Time before someone injured or killed from enraged driver justified by having "certificate of good conduct" to shoot at another? A very dangerous scenario allowing easy access to guns.
