Arsenal may have to act swiftly if they are to win the race to sign Germany starlet Mario Goetze.

Manchester United is the latest club to queue up for the 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder who starred in their 1-0 Bundesliga win over Bayern Munich on Saturday.

United’s key scout Martin Ferguson, brother of boss Sir Alex, flew to Germany recently and was impressed as Gotze – valued at around £25 million – scored two in a 5-1 defeat of Wolfsburg before the international break.

The German FA’s technical director Matthias Sammer described Gotze “one of the best talents that we’ve ever had” and Arsenal have watched every Dortmund game this season.

Gunners boss Arsenal Wenger will get another chance to see Gotze this week when Dortmund arrive at the Emirates for their Champions League tie.
