Olympic gift for Arsenal: Van Persie to stay

Arsene Wenger was fuming last night.

One wonders though if the fumes are a smokescreen for what could be the coup of the season – keeping Robin Van Persie at the Emirates.

That scenario, which once seemed impossible, now seems more than likely.

Yesterday evening boss Wenger categorically stated that the club has received no offers for their Dutch skipper.

Wenger snapped: “We will not come back forever on Van Persie. We have many strikers at home. Van Persie is one of them.

“He is close to fitness, of course. But we have not had any more contact from City or United about him at all.

“The Van Persie case doesn’t cross my mind. We have had no offers. We have talked about Van Persie.

“We have just played a football game tonight, there are four English people here and there have been four questions about Van Persie.

“I have talked about that, I am not talking about that question any more. Do you understand?”

Yes we understand Le Professor.

While Arsenal may have looked out of depth in their pre-season game against Manchester City in Beijing, an Arsenal line-up which will now boast Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud, Santi Cazorla and Robin Van Persie, is suddenly a line-up that will strike fear across the Premier League – from Manchester to London.

In Beijing after the fame Roberto Mancini when asked about his RVP bid, said: “Van Persie is one of the best strikers in the world, it is difficult to buy him.

“Have we made an offer? I don’t think so.”
