Although they had initially found a spot in the spotlight by virtue of being married to celebrated actors, celeb wives are finally stepping out of their husband’s shadows to take on challenges, and coming into their own.

They are, anything but mere trophy wives.

Gauri Khan, who was once known only as Shah Rukh Khan’s wife, is, in a way, spearheading this movement.

After playing the supportive wife and cat-walking alongside her husband at numerous film events, she has graduated into a successful film producer, and has also co-founded the film production and distribution firm – Red Chillies Entertainment along with SRK.

Gauri turned producer for the first time for SRK’s close friend Farah Khan’s debut movie ‘Main Hoon Na’. Since then she has produced eight movies, all of which did remarkably well at the box-office.

Her next movie, which is currently under production, is the SRK-Deepika starrer ‘Chennai Express’.

There were also fleeting movie appearances, where she walks the walk for the credit rolls during ‘Om Shanti Om’.

Back in the day, Gauri refused to step into the spotlight, heavily guarding her privacy and those of her children – Aryan and Suhana. She remained in the shadows, happily fulfilling her duties at home, making only rare public appearances and featuring in few celeb talk shows on the telly.

It changed after her children were older.

Gauri, initially, started out by handling SRK’s costumes in films like ‘Baazigar’, ‘Ram Jaane’, ‘Karan  Arjun’, ‘Chaahat’ and ‘English Babu Desi Mem’.

According to IMDB, she even played ‘costume designer’ for SRK’s movies ‘Oh Darling Yeh Hai India’, ‘Anjaam’, ‘Darr’ and ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’.

She then shifted focus to Shah Rukh’s production house and IPL team.

And that’s not all, she has since cultivated her desire to decorate homes by launching her furniture line in her best pal (and star wife) Sussane Roshan’s home designer store – The Charcoal project.

She turned interior designer role for a commercial project by Pune-based Kolte Patil Developers Ltd, which involved modeling couture penthouses.

Gauri has appeared for telly ads with SRK, for Cinthol, back in the day, and more recently for home store D’décor.

And, that’s not all. She has even walked the ramp for famed designer pal Karan Johar.

She has also graced the covers of numerous fashion and movie magazines in India, either with SRK or with Sussane.

Some even highlighted her status as the most influential star wife. From being titled the “Most Stylish Woman in Bollywood” to Vogue India magazine branding her the “First Lady of Bollywood”, Gauri has been acknowledged for her fashion acumen and her imposing clout.

In fact, rumour mills were abuzz about how Gauri sidelined actress Priyanka Chopra from the Bollywood party circles, and boycotted her at many film functions, mostly because of her growing proximity to SRK.

SRK has always been vocal about Gauri’s influence in his life, and is happy sharing the spotlight with his now celebrated wife.
