Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom: Sony, Nokia hit?

Samsung’s camera phone with a 16 megapixel camera and a massive 10X optical zoom has been launched in the UAE.

The device is priced at Dh1,899 and will be on sale from today across leading outlets.

The camera phone that was launched in London on June 12, combines the features of an S4 mini with a powerful camera and is aimed at taking on the Sony Xperia Z and Nokia`s forthcoming Lumia 1020 EOS.

Nokia’s 41 megapixel camera phone the first such windows phone ever will be released in London on July 11.

Samsung, meanwhile, hopes to get on board enough customers with its S4 Zoom.

Samsung has been working on combining the phone with a powerful camera.

"Combining 10x Optical Zoom, 16 Mega Pixel CMOS Sensor, OIS and Xenon Flash with the very latest Samsung GALAXY S4 technology, the GALAXY S4 zoom sets new standards for perfect mobile photography. It is the ultimate smartphone and camera experience in one, and the only device you’ll ever need," said Samsung.

Zoom Ring

Among the features is the new Zoom Ring, that when operated immediately activates the camera feature of the phone.

"When you’re in the middle of a phone call and you see something you absolutely have to share, a quick twist of the Zoom Ring will activate the In-Call Photo Share feature, letting you capture and send an image directly via MMS to whoever you are talking to," the Samsung note said.

There is a built in Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS) to reduce blurriness and stabilize the image while zoomed in for.

The device also comes with various other features such as Photo Suggest that instantly connects the user to huge libraries of images taken by other photographers, the Smart Mode, that enables the user to choose from a series of pre-set modes and the camera will automatically adjust to ensure you capture the best photo possible.

The Drama Shot will help merge continuous shots of moving objects into a single composed image, or Action Freeze to instantly capture high-speed action.

If you aren’t sure which Smart Mode to select, the Smart Mode Suggest feature can assess the scene for you and provide a short list of the best options for your consideration based on surrounding factors such as light levels, focal length, or face detection, ensuring you always get the best shot you want.

Story Album

The Story Album lets the user arrange all images and videos into one timeline for sharing.

Then you have the usual features of the S4 mini.

The devise measures  125.5 x 63.5 x 15.4 mm, weighing 208 gms and comes with a 4.3 inch qHD display, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, LTE connectivity, NFC, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, 1.9MP front-facing camera, 1.5GB of RAM, dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 8GB of internal memory, MicroSD card support, and a 2,330 mAh battery.
