Published

A pregnant Emirati woman and her 13-year-old daughter were killed while the her husband and other children escaped with light injuries in a road accident while on a holiday in Malaysia, media reported on Monday.

The family and their Arab driver were on their way to the capital Kuala Lumpur when the vehicle skidded off the road and rammed into a cement block on the motorway.

The pregnant wife and her teenaged daughter were killed while the father and his 11-year-old son suffered from light injuries. His other son, 8, and five-year-old daughter escaped unhurt while the driver fled the scene.

Dubai-based Emarat Al Youm daily quoted a friend of the family in Ras Al Khaimah as saying the father and his family had planned to go to India, but changed their mind because of the hot weather in the subcontinent.

“The family wanted to return on Thursday for school and the father has been building a new house for the family in Ras Al Khaimah. I spoke to him after the accident but he was still in a shock,” Jassim Mohammed said, adding that Malaysian authorities were investigating the accident and searching for the Arab driver.

ABN News quoted the UAE ambassador to Malaysia as saying the bodies would be flown to the UAE at the earliest.
