Gulf carriers have taken top billing at the Skytrax World Airline Awards, with Emirates, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways and Oman Air securing spots in the top 10 list across various categories.

While Emirates bagged the top prize for the Best Inflight Entertainment in the world with its award-winning ICE system, Etihad claimed third spot in the Best Airlines in First Class.

Qatar Airways emerged second in the top three Best Airlines of 2014, beaten by Cathay Pacific Airways, which claimed the top spot, while Singapore Airlines came in at third place.

Meanwhile, Oman Air grabbed the fourth and the eight spots in the Best Business and Economy Class lists, respectively.

The awards, which were announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, are regarded as an industry benchmark of passenger satisfaction levels of airlines throughout the world that is delivered via a survey format based on analysis of business and leisure travellers, across all cabin travel types.

World’s best

The awards night saw Gulf carriers win several accolades in succession with Emirates – which just took delivery of its 50th A380 superjumbo – coming in at fourth place in the Best Airlines category for 2014, while Etihad Airways took the ninth spot; rounding up the top five in the same category was Turkish Airlines.

In the Best Inflight Entertainment category, Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways also grabbed spots in the top 10 list that was headed by Emirates, coming in at positions seven and 10, respectively.

Etihad, which will be unveiling its First Class Apartments and The Residence later this year, was in the top three list of Best Airlines in First Class; Emirates and Qatar Airways also took key positions, coming in at fifth and eighth places, respectively; Singapore Airlines bagged the top prize for Best Airline in First Class.

Qatar Airways, meanwhile, was cited as Best Airline in Business Class, which also saw Oman Air come in at number four.

Meanwhile, Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways also made it into the top 10 categories for Best Airline Lounges First Class and Business.
The World Airline Awards Customer Survey operated between August 2013 and May 2014, during which time 18.85 million customer surveys were completed.

The survey covered full-service and low-cost airlines.

More than 105 nationalities participated in the survey, covering over 245 airlines, from large international airlines to smaller domestic carriers.
The surveys measure standards across 41 key performance indicators of airline front-line product and service.
