RTA warns against illegal taxis in Dubai: Fines can reach AED 5,000
Residents urged to use only licensed RTA taxis, as unlicensed rides could put passengers' safety, rights and legal protection at risk

Dubai: Standing as you wait for a taxi to arrive is never a pleasant experience. But residents have been warned by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to not take up offers for a taxi ride from unlicensed services providers.
“Not everyone who provides you a ride offers a safe service,” the RTA warned recently, adding that using unlicensed taxi services doesn’t just put your safety and rights at risk, but can also lead to legal consequences.
This applies to the transport service provider as well.
“Operating passenger transport without a licence is a violation, with fines reaching up to AED 5,000,” the RTA said.
How do I know a taxi is licensed by the RTA?
Official Dubai taxis that are licensed by the RTA are easy to spot, as they have a beige body and a coloured roof, with a ‘taxi’ sign mounted on top. When you see the taxi, you will also be able to see the taxi company’s name, as well as an RTA logo on the side.
