A Filipina maid was arrested and presented before the Dubai Courts for stealing 2,000 euros (Dh8,153) from her employer’s pocket.

The maid allegedly confessed stealing money from the employer during a Facebook chat with a friend, which was presented as an evidence before the court by the Public Prosecutor during the hearing.

On August 20, 2015, at around 1pm, the employer changed his shirt in the bathroom and forgot to take out the money from the pocket.

"I changed and hanged my shirt in the bathroom. When I returned after three hours and searched my pocket, I did not find the money," the 74-year-old Jordanian investor told investigators.

Initially, the employer did not suspect the maid for it was not the first time he had forgotten the cash in the house. On previous occasion, he found the money that he had forgotten at home. But this time he suspected her because she ran away from the house three days after the incident.

After lodging a police complaint against the maid, the employer approached the woman who had recommended the maid to him.

The woman, also Filipina, teacher, told investigators that the maid had told her during Facebook chat that she would leave the country because she was stealing money from her sponsor.

Police arrested JN and referred her to the court on theft charges.

The accused, however, denied the theft. But the Public Prosecutor handed over a copy of the Facebook conversation between the accused and her friend during which she confessed to stealing money from her employer.

The court adjourned the case to August 11.
