The Criminal Investigation Department of Dubai caught three Eastern European men attempting to steal from ATMs using fake credit cards.

Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, the General Commander of Dubai Police, confirmed that the gang was caught red-handed after the criminal investigation team in the customer department and MEs protection department received a tipoff.

The bank investigation division at the CID began working on the case in coordination with banks, and devised a plan to catch the suspects.

When one of the 24-hour patrols was on duty, they spotted someone standing in front of the ATM machine and talking on phone.

The investigation team also noticed that there was another man watching the area for his colleague who was using the machine.

Their body language was doubtful and the team kept an eye on them.

The CID caught them with a large number of fake white cards that they used to steal money from ATMs.

Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said the team pursued the investigation and further traced the third accomplice.

The gang would use a special technique involving a camera and a scanner to copy data cards while someone is withdrawing money from the ATM machine.

They would then send the data to another member of the gang in a European country to be added over the phone to the forged used card which was being used by the gang.

The gang members only withdrew varying amounts of cash that did not exceed the maximum allowable amounts so as not to raise suspicion.
