William and Kate Barbie dolls to hit the shelves

Prince William and Kate Middleton pose for photographs in the State Apartments of St James Palace in London, England. After much speculation, Clarence House today announced the engagement of Prince William to Kate Middleton. The couple will get married in either the Spring or Summer of next year and continue to live in North Wales while Prince William works as an air sea rescue pilot for the RAF. The couple became engaged during a recent holiday in Kenya having been together for eight years. (GETTY IMAGES)

Most newlyweds have to make do with photos to immortalise the moment they say "I do". But Prince William and his wife Catherine will have their special day captured forever -- in Barbie doll form.

"Available in April timed to their one year wedding anniversary, the gift set features the two wearing outfits inspired by their regal wedding day attire," said a spokesman for Barbie-maker Mattel.

The Catherine doll wears a miniature version of her Alexander McQueen-designed wedding gown and a radiant plastic smile.

William's doll features his red military jacket and, rather generously, a full head of hair.

The second in line to the throne and his bride Kate Middleton married in a glittering London ceremony on April 29 last year, which was broadcast around the world.

Aimed at adult collectors, the Will and Kate dolls can be pre-ordered for £99.99 (120 euros, $157) for the pair.

The prince, 29, is currently on a deployment in the Falkland Islands as part of his role as a Royal Air Force search and rescue pilot, but still found time to send his 30-year-old wife a Valentine's card and flowers.
