Dubai: Dubai Municipality has urged residents not to leave vehicles unattended in public places during periods of travel or extended absence, particularly during the summer holiday season, warning that neglected vehicles can negatively affect the emirate's appearance and lead to fines and impoundment.

The municipality said vehicle owners should follow five key measures before travelling, including avoiding long periods without vehicle maintenance or follow-up, arranging for regular cleaning to prevent dust accumulation, covering vehicles with suitable protective covers, parking in designated and secure locations, and avoiding deserted plots or sandy areas.

Dubai Municipality stressed that maintaining the emirate's civilised appearance is a shared community responsibility that begins with awareness and aAEDerence to regulations.

AED500 fine for abandoned vehicles

The municipality said abandoned vehicles are monitored throughout the year by dedicated field teams, which document vehicle details and issue warnings ranging from three to 15 days, depending on the vehicle's condition and location.

If the violation is not rectified within the specified period, the vehicle is removed in coordination with Emirates Parking Company and transferred to an impound facility in Al Awir.

Owners face a AED500 fine for abandoned vehicles, in addition to towing and impoundment fees. Additional charges may apply depending on the type and weight of the vehicle, the duration of impoundment, and whether special equipment is required for removal.

Dubai Municipality noted that vehicle owners with Dubai registration plates receive SMS notifications through contact details registered with the Roads and Transport Authority.
