While the number of ‘outstanding’ schools in Dubai remain unchanged at 12, the number of ‘unsatisfactory’ schools have decreased by two in the new school report card unveiled by Dubai’s education regulatory authority.

There were 10 schools marked ‘unsatisfactory’ last year, but for the academic year 2013-14, the number lowered to 8.

Out of the 141 schools inspected, 8 schools showed improvement, the report card highlighted.

The rest of the rankings remained almost identical to last year’s report card.

Fifty-seven schools were rated ‘good’, 64 rated ‘acceptable’ and eight rated ‘unsatisfactory’.

The 12 ‘outstanding’ schools are Kings school Dubai, GEMS Wellington International School, Jumeirah College, Jumeirah English Speaking School, Dubai College, GEMS Jumeirah Primary School, Jumeirah English Speaking School (Br), and GEMS Dubai American Academy.

Six schools that moved up the ranks from ‘acceptable’ to ‘good’ are GreenField Community School, JSS International School, Dar Al Marefa School, Dubai Police Kindergarten - Deira Branch, Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Islamic Institute, and Star International School.

Two more schools that were ranked ‘unsatisfactory’ have moved to ‘acceptable’. These are English Language Private School, Grammar School.

Ambassador Kindergarten, and The Indian Academy, which were not inspected last year, were ranked ‘acceptable’.

A detailed list of the rankings have been uploaded on the official website of The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

“We encourage parents to read the school reports in full,” said Jameela Al Muhairi, Chief of Dubai School Inspection Bureau at KHDA. “Parents should be fully informed of the strengths and weaknesses of their child’s school and have a comprehensive understanding of its progress over the past year.”

Tuition fee increases in Dubai are based on KHDA ratings. The KHDA had earlier announced that the school fee increase will be 3.48 per cent for 'outstanding' schools, 2.61 per cent for 'good' schools and 1.74 per cent for the rest.
