The Ministry of Health has warned the public against taking Vital Plus pills which are used in the treatment of impotence, saying it poses hazards to human health.

In a circular sent to medical centres and pharmacies, the Ministry said tests showed Vital Plus is not fully herbal as the manufacturers claim and that it contains medical substances that could lead to health complications.

“Tests showed that Vital Plus is not purely herbal medicine…it contains dangerous substances and this is considered as pharmaceutical fraud,” said the circular issued by Dr Amin Al Amiri, the Ministry’s assistant undersecretary for medical practices.

Amiri said tests conducted by the Ministry on Vital Plus tablets, manufactured by Holy Land Remedies company, showed it contains Tadalafil, which is used in the treatment of impotence in both males and females.

“It is likely that these products are not manufactured in accordance with known standards and in places that are not subjected to medical supervision,” he said.

He noted that doctors always warn against using Tadalafil and related substances by patients suffering from high blood pressure and heart problems.

Holy Land Remedies, owned by Arab doctors, is based in Britain but has offices and distribution agents in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries. It says on its website that Vital Plus can cure impotence in men and women, stimulate memory and delay senility.
