Dubai Design Week 2026: Dates, tickets, highlights and what’s free at the 12th edition

Dubai: Looking for inspiration? Watch art and design come alive at the region’s largest creative festival – Dubai Design Week. The 12th edition of this annual event returns with insightful curations, talks and workshops from the realms of art, architecture, furniture, interior and digital design. Here’s everything you need to know about Dubai Design Week, and how to take part. What is Dubai Design Week? The fair at Downtown Design brings together established and emerging names from the international design scene. Picture credit: Dubai Design Week Held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, in strategic partnership with Dubai Design District (d3), and supported by Dubai Culture, Dubai Design Week brings together designers and creatives from around the region to exchange ideas, collaborate and explore the evolving role of design in shaping a better collective future. This year, the festival explores how design strengthens connections between people – from the language they use to the spaces they inhabit. When and where is Dubai Design Week being held? Dubai Design Week runs from November 3 to 8, 2026, at Dubai Design District (d3). The event is free. However, some workshops and entry into Downtown Design are ticketed (more on this below). What can I expect at Dubai Design Week? The 2026 event offers a rich and varied programme, with new installations and commissions, exhibitions, talks, workshops, a marketplace and a design fair at Downtown Design. Here are seven highlights you can expect to see at Dubai Design Week: 1. Downtown Design The 2026 event offers a rich and varied programme, with new installations and commissions, exhibitions, talks, workshops, a marketplace and a design fair at Downtown Design. Here, you can find the latest in high-quality, contemporary design, and actively engage with pop up concepts and creative installations. Attend talks, learn from masterclasses, connect with like-minded individuals at networking events, and immerse yourself in creative experiences. International features include Italian glassmaker Venini, German kitchen appliance brand Gaggenau, and Italian outdoor furniture brand Ethimo. You can also find regional representation from Tashkeel’s Tanween Design Programme, and Abu Dhabi’s Athath Fellowship, as well as new pieces from UAE-based designers Nadine Kanso and Omar Al Gurg, drawing from Arabic calligraphy, and memories of the traditional majlis. When: November 4 to 8. Price: Dh80 for one day and Dh150 for all four days. 2. Urban Commissions Urban Commissions is Dubai Design Week’s annual competition, which gives creatives the opportunity to develop outdoor infrastructure in the public domain for d3. This year’s theme, titled ‘Atmospheres’ looked beyond architecture to emotional and sensory dimensions, and challenged individuals to consider how spaces are felt before they are consciously understood. NAO Architects, a Dubai-based architecture practice founded by architect Reem Nassour, is responsible for this year’s winning proposal, titled ‘Three Gardens and a Room’. The work reimagines the garden as a series of interconnected spatial experiences, and explores how simple elements like walls, shade, vegetation and light, can shape different ways of gathering, pausing and experiencing a place. 3. Abwab If you’re feeling inspired, participate in one of the festival’s many workshops. Picture credit: Dubai Design Week Abwab – or ‘doors’ in Arabic – brings together creatives from around the world, and commissions pavilions that reflect timely global and regional contexts. This year’s theme, ‘In Other Words’, asked artists and designers to consider how every act of communication involves a decision. What is made visible, what remains unspoken, and how is meaning carried through? Artists interpreted it in fascinating ways – from VARUSSI’s ‘Taleem’ – a coded system of notation used in Kashmiri carpet and Kani shawl making – to Kanaka Raghavan’s ‘Cheent Devanagari’ that uses translucent textile layers and Devanagari typography to allow meaning to flow in unexpected ways. 4. Installations If you’re not interested in nuances and looking to be wowed immediately, instead, step into Dubai Design Week’s large-scale installations – there are over 20, with a focus on how design, science and technology can converge to reclaim materials of our past, as well as reimagine new forms that foster sustainable practices. Here, you can find ‘Playing Field’, which transforms the popular game Ludo into a full-scale installation made entirely from UAE design brand Alter’s handmade recycled cement tiles. Or you can be transported to Japan at global architecture and design firm Nikken Sekkei’s CHATAI 2.0 interactive space, whi
